Mich House Sin Steward Training Sheet

Congratulations, new Sin Steward, on your recent ascension to this most exalted position of utmost respect and responsibility. Here are some tips:

  • Condoms can be obtained from the ICC office in the basement for a very reasonable price because they buy in bulk. If people complain about the type of condoms tell them to buy their own, we're just trying to prevent STDs and pregnancy here, not provide top of the line products.
  • Meijer tends to have slightly better prices than Kroger.
  • Kroger tends to accept some returnables that Meijer does not, but they do not accept Faygo products.
  • The beverage machines should be turning a profit. The reason for this is so the sin fund can be used to purchase alcohol for parties (the ICC rules prohibit using house or ICC money to buy alcohol) so the Flight Attendants don’t have to go around collecting cash from people before parties. This has worked out well in the past few years.
  • The fund should only be used to buy beer for the big open house parties. Only 1-2 kegs of cheaper beer should be paid for by the sin fund per party and some hard liquor. Things like mixers can be paid for by the sin fund so don't spend money you don't have to. Sometimes you can buy a box of wine or two at Thanksgiving or the Secret Lust Party, but don't let spending get out of control. There isn't a huge profit margin and we have to support 1 big party per semester.
  • You are in charge of buying the kegs and hard liquor for the parties. Coordinate with the Flight Attendants on this task. Reserve the keg ahead of time so you can get the kind that you want.
  • If the soda machine breaks down you need to get a contractor out to fix it. Coke will not fix the machines for us and may even take them away if they know we have them and are not stocking them with Coke products.
  • Past Sin Stewards have organized other projects to add to the Sin Fund. For several years during the summer we have allowed people to park in our driveway during Art Fair for a modest fee of $10 or $15. This usually brings in several hundred dollars for future parties.
